Sale Fire Brigade

The Sale Fire Brigade was formed in December of 1882 and was the second brigade to be established in the Gippsland Area, after Bairnsdale in 1879. It would be a further 10 years until the establishment of the Country Fire Brigades Board in 1890.

For over 140 years the Sale Fire Brigade has served the Sale community with bravery and distinction, fighting major blazes within Sale, and sending crews and equipment to other areas of Victoria, and even interstate to fight major fires.

Sale Fire Brigade is a 100% volunteer organisation, and our members are proud to serve their community 24 hrs a day , 7 days a week , 365 days per year.

Country Fire Authority is a volunteer-based organisation that works to protect the lives and properties of millions of Victorians. We have 54,000 members working in over 1,200 brigades across Victoria, ranging from small rural towns to outer metropolitan suburbs. Callouts at brigades can vary between one and 1000 each year.

CFA is a Trusted Authority because they have the community reach, the local knowledge and the skills to best prepare our communities for fire and respond in force when they are needed.

VFBV is the united voice of CFA volunteers and advocates on their behalf to CFA and other key stakeholders. The VFBV Board drives policy development based on volunteer input and is involved in management of issues that are of central importance to all CFA volunteers. There are ten members of the VFBV Board, comprising eight members appointed from CFA brigades and two ex officio Board members elected by State Council. The State President and Vice President are elected by the Board. Day to day issues are managed by a Chief Executive Officer and policy and issues are debated and formulated through specialist committees.
